A long-threatened lawsuit to determine whether graduate assistants at the University of Missouri qualify as employees under state labor law was filed Wednesday in Boone County Circuit Court. The Coalition of Graduate Workers, a local union affiliated with the Missouri National Education Association, sued the university for recognition as the bargaining representative for 2,600 graduate students employed as teaching and research assistants, instructors, library assistants and graduate fellows.
